I
have taken private yoga lessons at CyCo for several months now and
they have been great! To share my experience I would like encourage
others to take private lessons as well. As we know, Yoga can offer
an amazing variety of benefits from healthy bodies, mental relaxation,
and not the least, (gasp!) spiritual enlightenment! All good stuff.
I have taken private lessons before and find it helpful to more intensely
learn well what I want to learn, with personal attention from an instructor.
There are four reasons to take private lessons:
1. To develop a better understanding of the yoga poses (e.g. moving
from the body not the mind, optimal anatomy alignment) and how to
do some harder poses.
2. For special needs - such performing to a higher level in sports
or for health reasons.
3. To learn some yoga philosophy - such as mindfulness, pranayama
breathing, lightness. These are all essential for doing advanced yoga
poses with ease.
4. To develop a home personal practice that compliments class practice.
In my lessons at CyCo I learned some harder poses, took care of a
body ailment, and enjoyed good introduction in some areas of yoga
philosophy I hadn't explored yet. In privates, yoga teachers can focus
on the needs and interests of the individual. They enjoy this opportunity.
Yoga teachers are “really into yoga” and so know a lot
more than they can possibly teach in a group class. I encourage people
to find an instructor who has a style they like and to give it a try.
