YOGA TEACHER TRAINING DETAILS: What to expect
This page is to let you know what I envision for the upcoming yoga
teacher training.
:
http://home.earthlink.net/~harmonygarden/index.html
will give you the most up to date information.
For further information and/or application for the next Yoga Teacher
Training, please contact Ti at harmonygarden@earthlink.net.
The total cost of this course is $2000 and more information is provided
below.
First, please know that people are interested in this training for,
in general, one of two reasons: to be certified to teach yoga and/or
to deepen their own personal practice and understanding of yoga in
general. I want this course to work for both kinds of people, so I
envision “two tracks” that participants may want to be
on, one of which leads to certification and which will be more rigorous
and one of which does not necessarily lead to certification and which
will be less rigorous, though both tracks will by necessity overlap
a lot. The cost for either track will be the same, just the requirements
and expectations will be different. If in the future, you want to
do the certification track, having completed the non-certification
track, I expect that will be possible, with minimal added expense.
From the beginning, I am designing this training using the guidelines
of the Yoga Alliance (YA), a national organization of yoga teachers
and organizations, which oversees teachers and schools who voluntarily
join the organization. At present YA is the only organization of its
kind and was developed to create standards for yoga teachers, mostly
to avoid these standards being set by non-yoga teachers, i.e. by state
legislatures. YA sets minimum guidelines and this course will exceed
that minimum. My expectation is that this “school” that
you will be learning in will be certified by YA by the time you graduate,
meaning that you will be able to send in a copy of your certificate
that you receive at graduation and they will allow you to be a member
of their organization and by able to claim yourself as RYT (Registered
Yoga Teacher) at the 200 hour level (they also have a 500 hour level).
As I mentioned in earlier communication with you, this does not necessarily
mean anything, especially in the Triangle area currently. As I write
this note, I know that the yoga studios that I have any dialogue with
in the area do not require this registration for their teachers, and
in fact, I have never had the RYT designation with my name, though
I will in order that this “school” will be able to be
approved by YA. One of your fellow students who just completed her
YTT in Baltimore told me that there, it was basically impossible to
find anywhere to teach if she wasn’t certified or in the process
of getting certified, so it is possible that in the future the RYT
designation will become more important in our area as well.
So the bottom line is that though I am using the YA guidelines and
am working to have this “school” be able to graduate RYT’s,
at present there is no guarantee that this will be the case. I don’t
foresee any major stumbling blocks in the process, but I just want
you to have all the information possible about this as you make your
decision about this course.
I am still working on the specifics of the curriculum so I cannot
give you a syllabus or course outline at present. I can tell you that
a big focus of this course will be on developing a strong personal
practice, the foundation of any good or even decent teacher. I refuse
to teach what I don’t practice and I hope that those people
I train will do the same. Another major focus will be on understanding
the philosophy behind the practices and on developing your own style
of teaching that reflects your individuality, areas of interest and
understanding of the goal of yoga practices. Personal growth will
by necessity be an important part of this whole process. Finally I
will expect that you will receive a solid understanding of a series
of basic postures which you will be able to competently teach to others
and which can serve as a jumping off point for your further teaching.
What I can offer you is over 14 years of regular disciplined and intensive
practice on the mat and in life, including over 11 years teaching,
as well as study with a number of world-renowned yoga teachers from
many different styles. I also have over 9 years of practice as a Phoenix
Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner including 2 years of mentoring others
in the learning process. This experience I believe has given me an
understanding of how people learn, how to listen and effectively communicate,
and how to teach. In addition, my 7 years of being a devotee of Amma,
my Guru, I believe has allowed me to begin to taste the fruit of these
years of practice much sooner and more deeply than I might have been
able to otherwise. I credit Her with any success I have experienced
both on the mat and as a teacher and as a human being. Additionally
I believe that my two years of parenting has tested and expanded the
limits of my patience and deepened my love and surrender, all of which
has allowed me to feel paradoxically confident and humble enough to
offer myself as a teacher of teachers.
FINANCIAL AGREEMENTS:
The total cost for this course is $2000. This covers the cost of your
attendance at all the weekend classes and monthly “check-in”
time with Ti. It also pays for your attendance at the optional 4 hour
yoga classes scheduled between most of the ytt weekends. It does not
cover the cost of books for the required reading (estimated under
$100), cost of the required (if you don’t attend the 4 hour
yoga class) weekly yoga class with Ti, and cost of observing yoga
classes (if any cost is associated with this, you must work it out
with the teacher that you observe). If you have to miss some of the
required weekend classes, you will need to arrange to make up that
time in order to graduate. Any make-up time you will need to pay additionally
for. Alternatively, since I do anticipate teaching this course again
(though I cannot guarantee it), you could make up any missed sessions
during the next course for a reduced fee.
PAYMENT AND REFUND POLICY:
Please include with your application a deposit of $300 to be applied
to the total cost of the course. Full payment is due at least two
days before the beginning of the program unless you make other arrangements
with Ti Harmony beforehand.
Alternatively, a payment schedule may be arranged, as follows: $300
(in addition to the deposit) due two days before the start of the
course, $500 due December 8, 2006; $500 due March 9, 2007; $400 due
May 4, 2007. Please ask if you need options other than these.
There is no refund of $25 of the deposit once I have processed your
application though the rest will be refunded if we decide that this
program is not right for you or if you need to cancel up to two weeks
before the beginning of the program. If you cancel or drop out after
that, you may receive a refund of 80% of your deposit up to three
days before the beginning of the program. If you cancel or drop out
of the course later than three days before the beginning of the program,
there will be no refund whatsoever if you had paid in full; if you
had opted for the payment plan, I will expect full payment on the
schedule above. In essence, you are buying a space in this training.
If you choose not to use your space, you are still obligated to pay
or continue to pay for it.

Training's Financial Agreement and Payment Policy page.
