New Mom? Congratulations!
CYCo wants to help expectant parents and new mommies
to have a fun safe atmosphere in which to learn, enjoy and enrich
their time of family growth. Here's an idea of all of the programs
and activities we have planned regularly for this very exciting time
of life! Check our workshops page or our
schedule page for the latest times and dates. Also, check out
our Birth Circle, a
ongoing community building and networking group
for Pregnant Women at any stage and New Moms up to non-walking babies,
(babies welcome)!
Birth Circle is held on alternating months at Carrboro Yoga Company
and the Women's Birth and Wellness Center. We will host guest speakers
on various topics important to new mothers and share some lovely snacks

Who is this Paula anyway?
Paula Huffman has been teaching Prepared Childbirth classes for 13
years, 10 of those spent teaching through UNC hospitals.She began
teaching in Special Education in 1974and also holds certifications
as a Registered Nurse, Childbirth Educator, Perinatal Fitness Instructor,
and Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher inlcuding a special certification
in Restorative Yoga through Judith Lasater. She
has also received training in and occasionally practices as a Doula.
Paula is the proud mom of her daughter Judith who was born at home.
Her goal for all pregnant couples is to offer information, knowledge
and confidence to make smart informed decisions throughout the process

Prenatal Yoga (open class)
Develop a sense of body awareness, confidence and relaxation through
yoga. Emphasis is placed on yoga poses that help to prevent or reduce
the common discomforts of pregnancy while preparing you for labor
and delivery. Come, rest, restore, meet new moms while you journey
thorugh this special and amazing time of life. Doors open at 5:30
for time to spend talking with other moms to be. Instructor is available
for question and answer time. Class officially starts at 5:45, but
please feel free to come late...The first 15 minutes are usually spent
with introductions and updates. Wednesdays & Fridays.
Yoga 1 (open
class)
Expect to feel refreshed, calm, centered, and ready to fully engage
in your life as we take a gentle approach to practicing yoga. Special
emphasis will be on cultivating mindfulness as we integrate postures,
body alignment, breath awareness, relaxation, and meditation. Thursdays

Workshops
Prenatal Workshop For Couples This workshop is an
opportunity for you and your partner to better understand the birth
process. Partners will gain greater awareness of how to support the
birthing mother with confidence, sensitivity, and calmness. Class
includes: · Labor Breathing · Relaxation · Partner Massage and yoga
· Focusing and visualization Comfort techniques, positioning & more!
Taught by Paula Huffman, BS, RN, certified childbirth educator, yoga
teacher, doula, and perinatal fitness instructor. $45 a couple, singles,
$25.
Childbirth Education Alternatives
Prepared Childbirth Classes 
Okay... we're pregnant...now what do we do? Let someone help you who
has helped many pregnant couples through this exciting and potentially
confusing time. These classes will help you to prepare for labor and
birth regardless of your choice of birth setting. Comprehensive class
topics and information are experience based and focus on choices to
empower the parents through informed consent. In other words, don't
go through this thing blind. Learn as much as you can about your alternatives
and what's out there to make the most comfortable and personalized
decisions for you and your expected baby.
An overview of the seven week series includes:
* Anatomy and physiology of the birth process, phases and stages of
labor
* Non-medical coping techniques including breath control, relaxation,
massage,positioning, and partner support
* Variations and complications of labor, medical pain management options,
cesarean births
* Postpartum and newborn care
There will be an additional offering of infant/child CPR at the end
of the 7 week series which is optional. Guest speakers related to
specific topics will be an additional source of information and perspective

CPR Classes American Heart Association Standards
Whether you need CPR for work or simply want to learn the technique
for personal reasons, this class will work for you. Options in CPR
offered in a personable, relaxed, non-hurried setting. Led by Paula

Mommy & Baby Postnatal Yoga Workshops
Come bond with baby and other new mothers as you gently restore and
renew yourself. Easy exercises help to strengthen, tone and reshape
the body, while the nurturing atmosphere and good company helps soothe
the spirit. This workshop is open to all levels of new mothers and
prior yoga experience is not necessary. This is a loose, fun filled
class that allows for nursing, crying, teething, venting, questions
and answers as well as reality checks. It is a 2 hour class
with time for yoga, talking with new moms and refreshments. Yoga poses
to restore, renew and work on the areas of the body and mind affected
by pregnancy, birth and new motherhood. Open to all new babies up
to crawling.
