Myofascial
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage works specifically with individual muscles and
is beneficial for those with tightness, discomfort, and chronic tension
in the body. By lengthening the spaces between the muscles, massaging
the attachment sites of the muscles, and spreading the center of the
muscle, circulation is increased and the pain/spasm/pain cycle is
interrupted. Myofascial
massage is intended to go deep, but should never move into pain. Some
people prefer full body deep tissue work while others prefer specific
work on chronically tight parts of the body.
Relaxing
Swedish Massage
This gentle modality is for the person who may be managing stress
and anxiety and wants to relax. By engaging the parasympathetic nervous
system with firm but gentle contact, the fight/flight/fright response
is interrupted and replaced with a more calm and peaceful rest and
restore pattern.
Ayurvedic
Shirodhara Treatment
Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India, is literally translated
as “the science of life”. Shirodhara is a purification
and rejuvenation therapy of Ayurveda. A very simple and relaxing treatment,
it is effective for reducing stress, nervous tension, and anger. It
calms the body and the mind, and is helpful in alleviating chronic
headaches, hypertension, and recovering from jet lag.
The treatment involves a short guided meditation on body and breath
awareness, a face and neck massage, followed by quiet chanting as
you relax. A continuous stream of warm sesame oil is poured slowly
over the center of the forehead for 20-25 minutes. After the treatment
you will rest in silence for about 5 minutes. First time Shirodhara
clients have an additional $20 fee for the oil. After your session
you can take the oil home with you. This oil can be used for further
Shirodhara treatments. Please come in comfortable clothing with no
hair products and no make-up in order to maintain the purity of the
oil.
Thai
Yoga Massage
This gentle modality combines the best of yoga and massage. It is
performed on a mat in comfortable clothing. Thai Yoga Massage involves
assisted stretching and compression on the energetic lines in the
Ayurvedic tradition. It helps reduce stress, ease discomfort, and
creates profound feelings of relaxation. Thai Yoga Massage has proven
helpful to those who suffer from menopause, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis,
and multiple sclerosis.
