Kristin DeMarco
Path:
I was introduced to pilates and yoga through an injury. While running on the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2002 I fell and badly sprained my ankle, thus rendering me unable to perform my typical athletes exercise regime of strength moves and cardio. Luckily I was already close with a wonderful fitness instructor at the University of North Carolina at Asheville and she introduced me to the wonderful and (for me) surprisingly challenging world of pilates and hatha yoga. I became very involved in personal practice of both pilates and yoga initially as rehabilitation but it quickly became a way of living for me and was incorporated into every work out I did.
After leaving Asheville I began to teach at a small local gym in Charleston, SC. and was taken under the wing of several wonderful instructors there and slowly began to work my way toward certification. I have currently been teaching pilates, weight training and yoga in the area for about three years at various gyms and studios around the triangle and am certified for group fitness instruction and pilates (all levels).

Inspiration:
I feel good when I can help make other people feel good. I think most people are like this, especially anyone involved in physical fitness training. Being able to share some of my knowledge and love of the exercise(s) is my gift to my class, and it truly is that. Also,Salman Rushdie, planting bulbs, lizards, the way tomato plants smell, my dog Julius, and rhubarb pie.

Favorites for kicking it:
Getting a great work out; doing pilates, power yoga, kayaking, running, dancing (80’s preferred), swimming and laughing. Finding something new, or rediscovering something old and integrating it into an exercise or pose. Cartwheels. Regardless, I always bring laughter, lightness and fun anywhere I go.

Favorites for grounding:
Locating, or relocating, the mind body connection within my life, not just practice.

Intention:
To increase flexibility and total body strength in a relaxed, free and FUN setting where dynamic classroom interaction is encouraged and hang-ups are locked out. In class, we will work very hard, but it should be a pleasant journey to get there and we will look back happily. My classes are designed to be challenging for all levels, you must constantly challenge yourself or you never will know what you are capable of.
