Jim Eshelman
PATH    I began Yoga training with classes in Kundalini Yoga decades ago
(I won't say how many), and kept a limited, private practice
alongside my regular regimine for physical health. I began Pilates
classes and resumed Yoga study in 2004 with a focus on the restorative
benefits of these disciplines. Finding joy in sharing the form and
grace with others, my practice deepened, and I enrolled in the Fall
2005, 200-level teacher training at Dharma Yogashala in Raleigh.
Now registered with the Yoga Alliance, my approach incorporates the
principles of Hatha Raja as taught at NCSY, which include techniques
of breath control, mantra and meditation. I also continually seek
new means and methods to expand and bring those principles to others.

INSPIRATION    The traditions of Yoga are inclusive of so many disciplines for expanding body, mind and spirit, I am both overwhelmed and delighted with every opportunity to practice and to learn.
The methods of Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, as well as my formal training in the Hatha Raja approach all are appealing.

FAVORITES FOR GROUNDING   Having had years of formal training in music, I enjoy singing in the choir of the One Human Family Workshop. I also enjoy time with family, nature hikes, swimming, and lively discussion of social concerns. Yoga, too, of course! Sometimes I even enjoy my job as a software designer.

FAVORITES FOR KICKING IT    I find breathing techniques and inversions most rewarding in my personal practice, and so I wish to bring these benefit to others. The joy of challenging the self both externally and internally can open the body and the mind in ways one may never have dreamed, so keep stretching!

PRACTICE     Stillness of the mind, awareness, and realization of the self are the ultimate goals of Hatha Raja, and so I try to bring this focus daily to my personal practice and to others when possible. I also believe that practice is all about recognizing the fun, the light, and the warmth of being human.

INTENTION    I believe that Yoga can reveal a path to unimagined bliss for every individual seeker. I hope my guidance benefits this search for everyone I encounter.
