Path:
I was fortunate to grow up with yoga as a part of my life. It wasn’t
until college however, that I became serious about studying yoga and
happened to find my teacher, Chandra Om, at the NC School of Yoga
in Raleigh. I completed the six month teacher training program with
her at the NC School of yoga in August 2005, and have been teaching
since then. I am extremely blessed to be able to study with Chandra
– and to be able to share the teachings with others.
Another part of my path has led me to graduate school for clinical
psychology at UNC-CH, which I am currently in the depths of. I am
drawn to the connection between mind and body and believe yoga can
contribute to physical and psychological health, spiritual growth
and inner radiance!
Inspiration: My teacher Chandra continually inspires me to deepen
my practice and to keep a sense of humor
about everything. My sweet (soon-to-be-husband) Nate also inspires
me with his ability to stay calm and unaffected, and with his infinite
patience and love. I also find inspiration in creating things, and
in appreciating others’ art, music, and great stories. In asana,
I find inversions most inspiring.
Favorites for Grounding: Breathing consciously, lying in the grass,
a really good hug, hot tea.
Favorites for kicking it: Friends, movies, good books, standing on
my head… you know, the usual stuff!
Practice:
I practice asana and meditation daily, though the form and extent
to which this happens varies. I also continue to study with Chandra,
and this helps me keep up and remember what it is all about –
being real and being infinitely compassionate. The more challenging
part of my practice is letting things go and not judging myself.
Intention: I believe anyone can make yoga a part of life and that
they will benefit greatly. My intention is to create a space in class
that feels accepting, fun, and comfortable for my students to explore
yoga and to become more acquainted with their authentic selves.
