PATH: Growing up my mom taught Kundalini yoga. I had the opportunity to go to many yoga retreats with her, in addition to going with her to many of her classes from the time I was very young. I always enjoyed the peaceful energy that she creates in her classes. When I was in college I began looking for a yoga class and stumbled upon a teacher in Raleigh whose style was also very open, accepting, and peaceful; but she was teaching Hatha yoga, which I had not had much exposure to yet. The more I began to practice the more I loved it! I then took the teacher training at the same place where I had been going to class: The NC School of Yoga. This experience made yoga a part of my daily life, and helped me to rediscover so many of the wonderful things about yoga that had been part of my life growing up. This fall I will be continuing my studies at the NC School of Yoga in the advanced teacher training course.

INSPIRATION: My teacher, Chandra Om, is continually inspiring to me. One inspiring thing she says that I think of often is; “the proof is in the pudding” and this is the truth. Experiencing the deep calming and rejuvenating effects of just practicing even for a short amount of time reminds me that yoga is something I always want to have in my life. Also, poetry by Rumi and Hafiz.

FAVORITES FOR GROUNDING: Breathing consciously and getting quiet. Warrior poses. Eating root vegetables!

FAVORITES FOR KICKING IT: Practicing to music that has a lot of energy to it. Practicing with a friend and helping each other to try something new.

PRACTICE: My practice changes and I usually follow it where it wants to go. There are some things I feel I need to do each day, like stand on my head! The rest though, may change day to day, or go through periods of being very physically active, or more quiet and meditative. I have noticed, as other teachers have also, that my teaching tends to change with my practice – particularly if I find a pose I haven't taught in awhile, I get excited about sharing it with my students.

INTENTION: I believe anyone can make yoga a part of life. My intention is to create a space in class that feels accepting, fun, and comfortable for my students to explore yoga.
