Yoga complements anything you do. For athletes and active people, yoga can be a fantastic balance to the work of training. A regular yoga practice enhances your strength, flexibility, and focus, as well as your ability to recover.
Our co-owner, Sage Rountree, is an international expert in the field of yoga for athletes and author of three books on the subject. (We carry them all at the studio!) She writes on yoga for Runner's World and on sports for Yoga Journal. Sage works with many UNC teams and coaches, and she is a runner, triathlete, and endurance sports coach, as well. Sage thinks yoga for athletes isn't necessarily athletic yoga. While an intense practice is fun in the off-season, as you approach your competitive season, you should enjoy a more mellow practice that targets the core and hips, as well as giving you tools to sharpen your mental focus. Her class is suited for athletes in all sports and with all levels of yoga experience, and her intention is to make yoga accessible to everyone. CLASSES at CYCo.: Yoga for Athletes, Mondays, 6:00–7:15 p.m.; Thursdays, 5:45–7:00 p.m. Many other classes on our schedule are well suited to athletes; contact Sage if you would like personally tailored advice on choosing a class. Click here to sign in online, or drop in to any class on our schedule. CLASSES ONLINE: Sage's Thursday evening class is recorded for streaming at YogaVibes. If you can't make it to class regularly, or would like a taste of what happens in class, streaming a class is a great way to include yoga in your training, wherever you are! |
