Best of Citysearch for Carrboro/Chapel Hill yoga studios 2007!
It
started, like many things, as a whim, then grew into a notion,
and now has taken on a life of its own.
The Carrboro Yoga Company is a group of Yoga and Pilates health
care professionals committed to sharing the joys of self-health.
It's important to take care of yourself. Self-health is becoming
more accepted as a necessary priority in our lives--we all
need to keep our mind, body, and spirit in good shape. Luckily,
the days of "no pain, no gain" are gone.
Yoga feels good and is good for you! The key to yoga's popularity
is that anyone can learn it at any age and progress at their
own level. It's an opportunity to focus only on you--mind,
body, and spirit--and forget about the rest of the world for
awhile. That's why it feels so good.
We're
playing with the traditional notion of a yoga studio by focusing
on not only those who want to further their practice but also
people who have never experienced yoga before. By letting our
instructors have complete creative freedom in designing their
classes, we're coming up with some fresh takes on the practice.
Balance that with our traditionalists, and you have a lot to
choose from.
The idea for the studio came while we were walking through town
to meet some friends at Weaver Street Market. I had just finished
yoga teacher training and thought how nice it would be to come
to a yoga class, do some shopping, maybe listen to the live
music playing on the lawn... We just wanted to make it easy
and accessible for everyone to get their daily dose of feeling
good. We hope you come by and check us out!
Thanks,
Donia and Rick Robinson
Some
little side notes...
We keep
odd hours with most of our classes in the
evening and on weekends so it's hard to find us in during
the 9 to 5 day. Call ahead or come by during a class
and someone should be here. There are always those pesky
errands to run!
If you're curious about what new events are
happening or if there are any new classes, just check out
our "Workshops" page and get comfortable.
We have so many new weekend workshops and series happening
it's hard to keep track of it all.
How
does it work.
Almost all of our classes are drop-in classes. You can try
out or drop into any of them for $14. The Class Passes are
a bundle of classes that brings the price down, you are just
buying the group of classes, any classes you choose. Some
folks like to try classes one by one and others like to buy
a whole bundle with a pass card so they feel committed to
come in. We have it available both ways.
Regular class pass cards such as the New Comer's Special,
5 class pass and 10 class pass never expire. (Pretty
cool for those who are very busy or are out of town a lot).
Our Special Packages or discounted packages such as our Summer
Special or our Student/Teacher Package have a 90 day expiration
on them, sort of a you use them or you loose them kind of
a thing, and are only offered every once in awhile. (Not a
bad trade off if you know you are going to be coming in quite
a bit and will use them up.) Again we are trying to make it
easy for everyone to get the best deal on really great yoga
so they will want to come more often and enjoy the benefits
of a consistant practice.
We want this to be YOUR yoga studio, the
place you like to come and hang out with friends, meet new
ones, and also really think of this space as your sanctuary.
Whatever we can do to make that happen we will. Besides letting
you move in... and yes, folks have asked. Think
of us as your own personal 'Cheers' of a yoga studio!

What people are saying about us....
You all are worth every penny! Thanks for bringing such a
great yoga studio to the community! - Martha
I really enjoyed Amy's Pilates class. She is a great teacher
- she knows physiology and that practice and the different
levels and what a great laugh!. I am really psyched (or is
it cyco'ed ) to see the new Monday all levels class with Molly
Drake. Thanks for offering these classes. You certainly seem
to be able to attract awesome instructors and I love the karma
at Cyco. I'm so glad that Suzanne found you! - Debbie
I
was having a really irritating day before and now that I'm
here I feel so much better! - Michele
"Dear
Donia
I just wanted to let you know what a great yoga studio you
have. I'm
very new to yoga but already I know I love it. Your studio
is about 35
min away from me but its worth the drive. I have only taken
one class
and I know there will be many more to come. I have taken Michele
gentle yoga on Sunday at 10:30 I just wanted to say what a
great
teacher she is.
Keep up with the fantastic job
Katherine"
"Hi
Donia,
After 7 months of traveling for work, I finally got to settle
in here in my new
community/home (Pittsboro, Chapel Hill, Carrboro)... and finally,
got out to a
yoga class. I had some info to go on related to the studios
around the area -
and with so much variety in life - as with yoga studios, yoga
instructors, yoga
class types - it can be alittle unsettling. So, I will keep
this short and
pointed given it can be so difficult to find a place to fit
into.
First impressions are truly what the cliche makes them out
to be - instant
community and everlasting. And, last Saturday morning I happened
in to CYCO, and I must say, without her even knowing it, Star
just was so refreshing, friendly, so the right energy, personable,
upbeat, real and into helping me "get in the right class"
to get me back going again... it was really the first time
- I discovered someone working the "front desk"
in the wee hours of the morning on the weekend at a yoga studio
- who wasn't just checking bodies into classes...
In this day and age, this quality of service, level of friendly
support, and
having the right face for your front of house - is so integral
to long term
business success and for customers like me to coming back
and feeling like part of the community - that I applaud you
for hiring such the right person...
Maybe, it was accidental, you found her, she found you, and
that she represents you so well... But, keep her around...
She is so good for the energy of your business. And energy
is what it is all about...
Subsequently, I bought a class pass based on taking Lindsey's
class... But, I will save that for another email... this one
is about *Star* :-)
Best Regards,
David Kovach"
